Job Description
esVolta seeks a Manager of Portfolio Analytics to support strategic risk management of esVolta’s growing fleet of operational front-of-meter utility-scale battery energy storage projects. The Manager of Portfolio Analytics is a critical member of the Commercial Operations team, reporting to the Associate Director of Portfolio Management. This role is responsible for developing and implementing advanced data analytics and portfolio optimization strategies for the Company’s battery storage assets. The Manager will leverage their technical expertise in programming, sophistication in data analytics, and deep understanding of ISO markets to maximize portfolio value across multiple revenue streams.

The Manager will collaborate with teams across development, asset management, construction, legal, and finance to optimize the commercial performance of the portfolio and ensure accurate reporting of key metrics. This role offers the opportunity to shape portfolio strategies in an innovative and ever-evolving energy sector.


Key Responsibilities

Analytics and System Development
  • Develop and maintain data analytics tools to support portfolio decision-making using Python, Tableau, and Databricks.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the company’s Energy Trading Risk Management System (ETRM).
  • Support the creation of proprietary long-term price forecasting models for North American power markets.
Portfolio Monitoring and Optimization
  • Monitor real-time asset performance and positions in day-ahead and real-time markets.
  • Design and implement data-driven strategies to optimize physical assets in ISO markets.
  • Develop and execute financial hedging strategies using futures and options.
  • Provide pricing and analysis for complex structured transactions.
  • Collaborate with middle and back-office teams to ensure trade reconciliation accuracy.
Revenue Forecasting and Stakeholder Management
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly revenue forecasts, integrating quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Work with the finance team to align revenue forecasts with financial planning.
  • Automate processes for integrating third-party datasets into the internal analytics warehouse.
Risk Management and Reporting
  • Create dashboards that track positions, fundamentals, and analytics that drive proprietary market insights and actionable hedging strategies.
  • Compile and distribute risk and revenue performance reports for management and middle-office teams.
  • Maintain risk management data warehouse and implement processes that prevent inaccuracies and quickly resolve data discrepancies.
  • Monitor compliance with risk management policies.
  • Present complex analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Evaluate, contribute, and support new market opportunities and revenue streams.

Skills and Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in energy markets or related fields; battery storage experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on operational experience in CAISO or ERCOT markets preferred. 
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and object-oriented programming.
  • Expert knowledge of Tableau and Databricks with strong SQL capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets and develop actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with power market derivative instruments and financial portfolio construction preferred.
  • Experience executing financial power transactions and using power-flow modeling software is a plus.

Compensation and Location
The anticipated annual salary plus bonus for this position is listed below. The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

  • Flexible, option to work-from-home with periodic office visits for in-person engagement or to work from company offices in Newport Beach. For work-from-home option, must have a dedicated workspace and strong internet connectivity.
  • Requires ability to travel to company offices, project sites and business meetings as needed.
